'It feels like it's more of a documentary,' one fan says after preview of 'Never Say Never' clip at concert in L.A.

Some lucky Justin Bieber fans got the first glimpse of what to expect from his 3-D movie when he premiered the trailer for "Never Say Never" during his My World Tour stop in Los Angeles on Monday night. And the verdict from the fans MTV News spoke with can be summed up in one word: amazing.
"He said, 'Hey L.A., we have a special surprise for you. Something no one else has seen yet and you're only seeing it here tonight,' " Nicole Reddin recalled after the Staples Center concert. "And everyone was super excited. It feels like it's more of a documentary. It's a little bit more real than the things you see. It's a lot more [that] you get to know him and that's what we want to see."
Priestly Cleveland gave the trailer a glowing review. "It's the trailer for his movie, which is actually coming out Valentine's Day weekend. ... I loved it," she said. "My favorite part of the trailer was definitely when he was younger and singing and playing the guitar. I loved it ... it was cute, classic."
Added Juliana En, "It shows a bunch of baby pictures of him while he's growing up and pictures of him backstage just, like, doing random stuff."
The preview had special meaning for another longtime Belieber. "I remember when I used to watch Justin Bieber on YouTube before he got famous and I was totally a fan," Rachel Kelly said. "So this is really exciting."
"Never Say Never" won't hit theaters until February, but the singer's fans plan to keep busy until the flick's release date.
"I can't wait to see it," Cleveland told us. "In the meantime, I'm just gonna keep going on YouTube."

At the red-carpet premiere, the actors recall their bravest feats while filming Tony Scott's thriller.

LOS ANGELES — Tony Scott's upcoming thriller "Unstoppable" tells the true story of two railway workers who selflessly and heroically set out to stop a runaway train loaded with explosive chemicals from crashing into a small town. Given the inspiring feats of the film's protagonists and real-life heroes, when MTV News caught up with Scott and stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pine at the movie's premiere, we asked them to share their own heroic feats. What we expected were tales of bravery, action, possibly even romance; what we got was a little of that, plus a surprising encounter with some menacing breakfast food.
"Getting on the top of that train, that was very heroic on my part," said Washington, who performed many of his own stunts in the film, including a dazzling, dangerous run atop the train cars. "I did not want to do that."
"My most heroic effort? Making movies," director Scott offered. "There's nothing as scary as shooting a major movie. It's scary — creatively scary — because you're scared of creative failure, so I wake up, bolt upright every morning at 2:30, and that's what excites me. I'm lucky."
It's hard to argue with those efforts. But Chris Pine's sordid tale might be the juiciest. Literally.
"I once saved a breakfast burrito from crashing and disintegrating. On myself," Pine boldly revealed. "I got a stain on my pants. I couldn't wear the pants anymore. The definition of selfless," he joked.
"Suffice it to say, I've not done anything in my life that even approaches what the two gentlemen whom Denzel and I portray in this film did."

Lisa Blount, an Oscar-winning producer and actress who played Lynette Pomeroy in 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman, has passed away. She was only 53.
Blount was found at her home Wednesday. She more than likely died Monday, Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
There were no signs of foul play on the premises of her Little Rock, Ark., home.
R.I.P. Lisa Blount (1953-2010).
Blount and her widower, Ray McKinnon, who was not in town, together won the best live-action short film Academy Award in 2002 for their film, The Accountant.
"As one door was seemingly closing in my life, another door opened. And I only have one person to thank for that, my husband Ray McKinnon," Blount said then.
In addition to An Officer and a Gentleman, Blount appeared in films like Great Balls of Fire! and Chrystal, and shows such as Moonlighting and Picket Fences.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

From 'Armageddon' to 'Under the Cherry Moon,' 'Ye took cues from all over.

Here at MTV News, we like to cover the story from all angles, which is why, one day after publishing our high-culture cheat sheet for Kanye West's "Runaway" film, we're back with the lowbrow accompaniment. It's somewhat fitting, because while West's film is no doubt arty and abstract, it's also a big-budget, popcorn event too, the kind of thing that's littered with fast cars and explosions and lyrical nods to the Kings of Leon and Alec Baldwin.
So, really, we'd be doing a disservice — to West, his fans and Alec Baldwin — if we didn't do a pop-culture cheat sheet for the film. So here, alphabetized for your perusing pleasure, is our list of the films, fruits and, uh, fleshy abdominals that are referenced in "Runaway." And though our list is extensive, it's probably not perfect, so if there's something we missed, let us know in the comments below!
"Armageddon": The 1998 Michael Bay blockbuster about a team of deep-core drillers hired by NASA to save the earth from a rapidly advancing asteroid. Shockingly not based on actual events. The film is loaded with special-effects shots of fiery bits of space ephemera rocketing through the atmosphere, just like the opening scene of "Runaway." You could just as easily put "Deep Impact" in here too, since they're basically the same film.
"Bambi": Classic Disney film from 1948 about an orphaned deer and his adorable pals Thumper and Flower. The scene in which Bambi's mother is shot by a hunter is credited by some for helping the animal-rights movement gain traction around the world. None of that really applies to "Runaway," but there are plenty of cute little deer in it.
Blueberries: Antioxidant-rich flowering plants of the genus vaccinium. For reasons clear only to West, the table in the "Runaway" dinner sequence is covered in blueberries, though, according to some, they symbolize eternity and optimism of the future. Also, they are delicious.
"The Brother From Another Planet": Odd 1984 film from director John Sayles about a mute alien who crashes in New York City. The fact that "the Brother" is only distinguishable from other men by the three large toes he has on each foot seems to have been echoed in the phoenix's large golden claws.
Every single action movie ever: Over the past two decades, nearly every action movie made has featured a scene in which the hero turns his or her back and strides confidently away from a gigantic explosion (usually, this scene is shot in slow-motion). It's gotten so bad that the Lonely Island comedy troupe even released a song called "Cool Guys Don't Look at Explosions." And, well, in "Runaway," Kanye is guilty of the same thing, scooping up Selita Ebanks and walking away from a massive fireball — in slow-motion, of course.
"The Fifth Element": Tongue-in-cheek 1997 Luc Besson sci-fi film about a cab driver (and ex-special forces soldier) who rescues a mysterious, childlike alien/ "supreme being" with bright orange hair. Turns out, she's the key to saving the entire universe from destruction. Also turns out that like the phoenix in "Runaway," she spends a whole lot of time sniffing stuff and pawing at inanimate objects.
"Marie Antoinette": Eye-catching, vaguely anachronistic 2006 Sofia Coppola film about the teenage bride of Louis XVI, who eventually becomes the very frivolous queen of France. The elaborate dinner scene in "Runaway" — and, in particular, West and Ebanks' stilted interactions at it — remind us of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI's initial meeting at an equally lavish dinner party.
Rose, Amber: Bodacious model and socialite/ former paramour of West. Their relationship made headlines, and West makes a joking reference to the tabloid coverage of Rose's sexual preferences in "Runaway," when, during the dinner scene, a guest compliments him on the phoenix's beauty, then rhetorically asks, "Do you know she's a bird?"
"Splash": The 1984 romantic comedy about a New York City man who falls in love with a mermaid; the parallels between it and "Runaway" should be fairly obvious, though the dinner scene — in which the phoenix sniffs at a terrine, dips her claws in a glass of champagne and fumbles a loaf of bread — instantly made us think of the famous bit in "Splash" where the mermaid is invited to a White House dinner and proceeds to horrify guests by devouring a lobster, shell and all.
Situation, the: Bulgy, egomaniacal star of MTV's "Jersey Shore" most famous for his rippling abs and for being on "Dancing With the Stars" for about three minutes. His six-pack makes an appearance in "Runaway" on the midsection of Selita Ebanks' phoenix, who, moves it, shakes it and just ... wow.
Tarantino, Quentin: Academy Award-winning writer/director who is also an unconscionably bad actor. We're not saying West's directorial chops are quite to Tarantino's level just yet, but acting-wise, well, the two are pretty much on par.
"Under the Cherry Moon": Slightly disastrous 1986 Prince vehicle about a gigolo who scams rich women out of their inheritances. Presented in black-and-white and featuring lavish sets, costumes and musical numbers, it was arty, ambitious and a total flop at the box office. Fans who saw advance screenings of "Runaway" in New York mentioned "Cherry Moon" as an obvious reference point for West's film, and we tend to agree. In particular, the dapper tuxedo 'Ye wears during the film's centerpiece musical performance seems to be a loving nod to the Purple One's outfit in "Moon."

Earlier this year, My Chemical Romance parted ways with drummer Bob Bryar, who had played with the band since 2004 (he replaced their first drummer, Matt Pelissier). Since then, they've finished recording — and subsequently re-recording — an entire album, undergone a rather drastic DayGlo makeover, and created an impressive postapocalyptic future world to inhabit.
Through it all, the stool behind the drum kit has remained empty — until Saturday, that is, when MCR launched their World Contamination Tour in London. That's when they unveiled the newest member of the Killjoys team: drummer Michael Pedicone, formerly of grinding Arizona rock outfit the Bled (who, as luck would have it, shared a stage with My Chem on the 2007 Projekt Revolution Tour).
Pedicone took the stage with MCR during their show at London's HMV Apollo theater, and then, immediately following the gig, hopped on his Twitter account to introduce himself to the band's fans.
"So many questions from all ya Killjoys," Pedicone wrote. "I am thrilled to be drumming in MCR exclusively and to be a part of the fam. See you all soon!"
With that, Bryar's position appeared to be filled. But not so fast, Killjoys. Because while Pedicone will most certainly be manning the kit at all upcoming MCR gigs, he's by no means a full-fledged member of the band just yet. That's according to a spokesperson for My Chemical Romance's label, Reprise Records, who told MTV News that Pedicone is just a "touring" member of the band, à la James DeWees, who played keyboards for My Chem during their Black Parade touring cycle.
Still, that hasn't dampened Pedicone's enthusiasm. In a series of tweets before My Chem's Manchester show, he wrote, "I've known these guys for years. Now we get to play music together for a long time to come. Get used to me!"

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.
But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.
"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

Mel Gibson was set to play a small role in The Hangover 2 until the film's producers unexpectedly cut Mel's cameo, citing unrest among the cast and crew.
It's unclear who specifically objected, but rumors are swirling that Zach Galifianakis - whose Hangover quotes pretty much made the original - is behind it.
In a Comedy Death-Ray Radio podcast October 15, Zach lamented that, as an actor, "you don’t have a lot of control" over elements of a film's production.
Moreover, "I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something," Galifianakis said. "But … I’m not making any leeway.”
Combined with director Todd Phillips’ comment that Gibson “did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew,” you can see how that rumor started.
Galifianakis' manager had no comment on this, nor did Phillips, who was excited to have Gibson on board. The move has sparked outcry from some fans.
Supporters note that Mel, despite his issues, hasn't been charged with a crime, unlike Mike Tyson, who had a role in the first Hangover and raped someone.
Regardless of Zach's involvement, should Mel have lost the role?

'It takes a warrior to stand up for themselves,' Smith says of colorful camp in 'Whip My Hair' video.

With "two snaps and a W," 9-year-old budding pop sensation Willow Smith introduced MTV News to the amped-up crew of sassy kids in her recently released "Whip My Hair" video: the Warriorettes.
In the clip, the precocious Hollywood spawn of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith splatters paint on the walls of a hue-deprived elementary school with full-throttle jerks of her super-long braids. Also bringing the pre-teen swagger is a troop of hair-lashing kids Smith has dubbed the Warriorettes.
Smith broke down how the concept developed and revealed what it takes to be a Warriorette.
"Me and my mom first came up with Willowettes, and then we came up with Warriorettes," Smith explained. "It takes a warrior to stand up for themselves and not let anybody tell them that what they're wearing or what they're saying or what they're doing is wrong."
Smith added that while being a Warriorette means staunchly standing by your beliefs, you need a soft side as well.
"It takes a warrior to do that, but it still takes sensitivity ... also," she said. "We were kind of sloshing between Warriorettes and Willowettes, so we just called them Warriorettes, 'cause that's the stuff that you need to do that."
And who better to whip their locks around in her debut video than some Warriorettes who aren't afraid to express themselves as they please? Smith also explained that the concept of the clip is about letting it all hang out.
" 'Whip My Hair' means don't be afraid to be yourself," Smith said, "and don't let anybody tell you that that's wrong. Because the best thing is you."

Alicia Keys, Usher and Drake lead the list of nominees for the 2010 Soul Train Awards, it was announced on Monday (October 18).
New mother Keys and Usher are tied for the most nods with four apiece; Keys is up for Best R&B/Soul Artist Female, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, while Usher is up for Best R&B/Soul Artist Male, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Dance Performance.
Drake is just one nom behind the pace-setters. The Toronto lyricist scored nods in three categories: Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo, B.o.B Erykah Badu, Monica, Sade and Fantasia are among the other big nominees, each scoring two nods apiece. This year's Legends Awards recipients are veteran singers Ron Isley and Anita Baker.
R. Kelly is set to open the show, hosted for a second-straight year by actor Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. Rick Ross, Cee-Lo and Keyshia Cole are among the acts scheduled to perform. The 2010 Soul Train Awards are set for November 10 at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and will air November 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BET and Centric.
Last year marked the return of the seminal awards show, founded by "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius, after a two-year hiatus. The 2009 production also took place in Atlanta and featured tributes to Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, L.A. Reid and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.

Even when I'm skinny, I have fat calves. I've always had them. I remember being a size four and not being able to find boots that fit. I just have fat calves.
I told this to Mark tonight and said, "I can't even blog about it because it's embarrassing," and he said, "Own it!"
So I am. I have fat calves.
What's prompting this is that I got a pair of Hunter boots today. I thought if anything is going to fit, surely it will be these gigantic rain boots. But low and behold, I tried one on and it got stuck on my leg. I seriously thought I was going to have to cut it off. (The boot. Or the leg.) And you know, the boots are rubber, so the harder I pulled, the hotter my leg became and the tighter the boot got. When I finally pulled it off it was like "Pop!"—it was like a suction.
I'm so bummed out.

Lawsuit allegedly filed by pop star's mother claims AEG Live neglected his medical care, according to an online report.

The litigation that has surrounded the tragedy of Michael Jackson's untimely death continues. Katherine Jackson, on behalf of and along with Michael Jackson's children, has filed suit against AEG Live, the promoter for the late superstar's 50-date concert residency. Jackson's mother charges the company breached its contractual agreement to provide medical care for her son and argues they were negligent in hiring controversial doctorConrad Murray.
According to TMZ, Katherine's filing claims AEG's contract with Michael "created a legal duty for AEG to act reasonably toward the physical well-being of Michael Jackson." The website also points out that the lawsuit lists Katherine Jackson as a Guardian ad Litem, or legal representative, for Michael's three children, which Katherine is not. Jackson's mother is in fact only the trio's guardian.
The gossip site suggests that the mistake, along with the fact that Katherine's reps know nothing about the lawsuit, suggests she is not actively involved in this case.
In other MJ-related lawsuit news, Conrad Murray's attorneys asked a federal judge on Wednesday (September 15) to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the singer's father, Joe Jackson, because he is not a beneficiary of the late singer's estate. The Associated Press reported that Murray's lawyers equated Joe's lawsuit to a "press-release that is intended to prejudice and inflame the jury pool and the public." The motion will reportedly be considered by a federal judge during a hearing scheduled for Oct. 18.
Joe Jackson sued Murray on June 25, the one-year anniversary of his son's death in 2009 at age 50. His lawsuit claimed the doctor withheld vital information about Jackson's medical history — including a list of all the drugs he had administered to his patient — from paramedics who responded to a 911 call, as well as to doctors at UCLA Medical Center who attempted to revive the singer. At the autopsy for Jackson, the complaint also alleges that Murray "said nothing" about having administered the surgical anesthetic propofol, which the coroner concluded caused Jackson's death. The lawsuit seeks more than $75,000 in damages.

"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."
He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.
You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.
Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.
And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.
And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.
To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.
"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."
