Pop star, entrepreneur, philanthropist: Is there anything Lady Gaga doesn't find the time to do? Well, it seems that she's made room in her schedule to add a new job to her ever-growing résumé.
Gaga just announced she will have a column in V magazine. "I begin next month as a Fashion+Art Columnist for @VMagazine," she tweeted.
In an e-mail to MTV News, the magazine revealed that her first column, in which Gaga "will be gracing us with the presence of her pen [as] she weighs in on all things fashion throughout her multiverse," will appear in the summer issue of V, out on May 12. And she's even letting her little monsters get in on the fun.
In a project called, fittingly, "Drawn This Way," the magazine will hold a running contest allowing fans to submit drawings of their Mother Monster; the best one will run as the author headshot alongside Gaga's column. Gaga and the magazine will pick the winners together.
All media are welcome, and the magazine adds, "We are asking all artists, creators and little monsters to submit illustrations of our new columnist dressed in her most studious ensemble."
In the same tweet, Gaga added, "I'll be resurrecting 'TRANSMISSION GAGAVISION' episodes starting next week!" "TG" was the star's Web series that gave fans an inside look at her life. There are no further details yet on the rebooted series.

Now that the 'spectacular' album is done, tour plans are next, creative director Laurieann Gibson tells MTV News.

Over the weekend, Lady Gaga tweeted that her May release, Born This Way, was nearly complete. "In Nebraska, finishing up record today," she wrote. "I'm so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run."
Now, with eight weeks left until it officially drops, Gaga's creative director, Laurieann Gibson, revealed that this album will have the Little Monsters going, well, gaga.
"This new album is spectacular," Gibson told MTV News. "And I got to tell you, you got to really stand by and take notice, 'cause the album is excellent. It's of such excellence that I think that everyone's going to be really impressed and affected."
The first single from the album, the title track, has sat at the top of the charts for weeks, and as Gaga readies the release of a second single, the RedOne-produced "Judas," Gibson said it's just the beginning.
"The records are so visual and large and the concept of birthing has so many levels to it and the dance is never limited, that you're just gonna keep seeing an extension of this story," she explained. "And hopefully [we] get humanity to a place where we can effect change."
With the album basically done, plans for the tour are under way. "We did a theater in an arena and it worked [for the Monster Ball Tour]. ... How do we take it to the next level?" Gibson teased of Gaga's next outing.

When a comment from Ne-Yo hit the Internet in which the songwriter said that he wished he could have kept the Beyoncé hit "Irreplaceable" for himself, some took it as a dis to the star.
"One song that I gave away and didn't want to, but it's actually a good thing that I did, is Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable'. I honestly wrote that song for myself, but that song taught me a very interesting lesson: Many women don't think that differently. ... However, a man singing it comes across a little bit misogynistic, a little bit mean," Ne-Yo, who wrote the song, said in an interview.
When it was implied on Twitter that Ne-Yo was dissing the Sasha Fierce star with his comments, the singer/songwriter defended himself. "Aiight my dude. Send me the link to where I said ANYTHING disrespectful about Beyonce, PLEASE! Dying to hear this," he wrote. "Just heard the audio where I supposedly dissed Beyonce. ARE Y'ALL SERIOUS!?! Did y'all even listen to what I said!?!"
Ne-Yo then continued to tweet his anger toward those who misunderstood what he said. "I said I originally wrote the song for me. That's true, so OF COURSE I didn't want to give it away originally. IT WAS FOR ME," he wrote. "Once I realized how the song comes across if sung by a guy, that's when I decided to give it away. HOW IS THAT DISSING BEYONCE!?! She took the song and made it a smash, NOBODY can deny that ...
"You know what? At first I was apologetic about what the hacker said, now that I've heard the audio myself, not so much," he continued. "Y'all should listen a lil' harder before you start dissin' people. Makes you look real dumb. I'm tired of being nice to dumb people. ... Bottom line, Beyonce is my friend. To HELL with anybody that ain't SMART enough to understand what I truly meant."

The 'O.M.G.' singer looks forward to sharing the stage with his protégé on Sunday night.

HOLLYWOOD — At Sunday's 53rd Grammy Awards, Usher will be pulling double duty as both a nominee and a performer. Of course, given the massive year he just completed — with the success of his smash single "O.M.G." and as a mentor to rising phenom Justin Bieber — Ush's Grammy plans seem rather fitting.
Especially since he'll be performing with Bieber (and Bieber's pal Jaden Smith), a move that's just as much about celebrating Usher's successes as it is the successes of his young protégé.
"Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn't want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here," Usher told MTV News on Thursday, hours before his performance at the (Belvedere) RED launch party in Hollywood. "And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the story of how we came together. This music business has definitely been good to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be happy for."
And just how will the dynamic duo tell that story? Well, Usher wasn't about to reveal all the details, but he did say that he's hoping their performance will show another side of Bieber ... a side most tend to overlook.
"The performance will be fun," Usher explained. "We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a great time. ... This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn't believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He's going to play acoustically, and also, we'll get down a little bit."
And though Ush is up for a pair of Grammy awards on Sunday — Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond — he's most looking forward to sharing the stage with Bieber and giving fans a look at where the young artist will be heading next.
"I'm very proud, man. I definitely saw it from the beginning, but thanks to the team that we have around us, it was made to happen. And that story has only just begun," Usher said. "The story of Justin Bieber doesn't stop with screaming girls; we need screaming fans all around the world ... a cultural experience that's much more than just fanfare. And that's what this is. That's what the Grammys will be; that's what my next phase for Justin is. This is the way I found him: I found him with a guitar in his hand, so I want him to be seen that way."

MTV News spoke with filmmaker Zack Snyder and the cast about the making of the fantastical battle movie.

At long last, Zack Snyder's mysterious, "Alice in Wonderland With Machine Guns" film "Sucker Punch" has arrived in theaters. MTV News has been on the case since its humble beginnings, bringing you all the news, videos, scoops and interviews ... in a nutshell, everything you need to know.
To celebrate the film's opening day, we present a few more fun facts about the film that we learned directly from the film's director/writer Zack Snyder and the cast.
1. Snyder's original plan for the movie was to build it around a big musical number.
"I had this idea that it'd be cool if we used the musical number for the spine of the movie or the spine of the action sequence," Snyder told MTV News. "And then getting in and out of it would be like, the music would start and that would draw us in. That would be the sort of mechanism for the fantasy to begin, and when the music ended, that would be the mechanism for it ending. And that was sort of how it started."
2. Inspiration for the look of the film came from the adult fantasy magazine Heavy Metal.
"I still read it, actually," Snyder said. "It's got little short stories in it and they're illustrated. And so it's like a comic strip that has more sex and violence than you would get from a normal comic book," Snyder said, adding that he started reading the magazine in his youth. "I think it influenced this movie in a pretty big way."
3. For the high-action "train sequence," Snyder used hundreds of shots to look like one, which took seven days to shoot.
"[The train sequence] is a sequence that's broken up into maybe 120 shots that look like one shot," Snyder explained. "So you just kind of have to know where the cameras are going and knowing where it came from, and put these little camera moves in and all these shifts that have to happen. ... You shoot one angle and then you shoot the other angle and then it's going to be stitched with the CG section. So you have to know what you're capable of," he said. "How far you can push the CG stitch so it doesn't break the shot. There's a whole bunch of things like that."
4. Everyone in the cast is wearing a ton of makeup.
Even for Oscar Isaac, who plays creepy institution overlord Blue Jones and has the privilege of being one of the only men in the cast, the makeup process was extensive.
"I remember they would spray-tan me and then put an extra coat of shine on it," he recalled. "Then blush and then tons of eyeliner. My hair was basically glued tight to my head."
But compared to what the ladies endured, Isaac's process wasn't that bad. Carla Gugino told us the filmmakers wanted the makeup to make a statement, and that she spent at least two hours in the makeup chair every morning.
"We definitely had so much fun," Gugino said. "Rosalina [Da Silva] designed the look of the film makeup-wise. And we did 'Watchmen' together as well," she explained. "She's amazing. But there was a point when she said, 'Carla, guess how many sets of lashes you have on your eyes?' and I was like, 'Including my real ones?' and she was like, 'Yes.' And we realized that it was four."
5. Snyder had to cut back on the violence in the movie, particularly a few scenes that involve implied or attempted rape.
"Those [scenes] of course got trimmed away," he said. "It's really delicate because even that subject matter, you have the harder version that is sometimes better because it actually makes the point a little bit more directly. The PG-13 version was difficult for me," he revealed. "I would say that the very things that they didn't like were the very things that you needed to see in order for you to understand the content of the scene. You know, to know how to feel about it, because otherwise you're sort of left in this weird middle ground," he said. "So it's difficult. It's tricky."
Snyder went on to explain why the sexual violence and lobotomy images were necessary to include in the film, juxtaposed with the idea of women not being victims and being able to defend themselves.
"For me it was all about having incredible threat in that world. Like, what is the most dangerous thing? What is the worst possible thing, and to me being lobotomized and then raped is probably the worst possible thing," he explained. "I like the idea that the verdict or the ... like if someone were to make a sacrifice, and you have two alternatives and one is just go back to jail. OK. You know, I get that. And one is you know, be lobotomized and then possibly raped for the rest of your zombified life. You know, you really need to think about that. You're giving up a lot, I guess, is my point."

After months and months of buzz, rumors and hype, Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch" is finally about to drop in theaters. MTV News has been on this film's case from day one and recently had the opportunity to catch up with the cast and director for a few in-depth chats.
First up, the lovely leading ladies addressed the film's most outrageous moments.
"I think, for me, when we're on the B-25 bomber plane and we're being chased by a dragon and I'm shooting at it," said Vanessa Hudgens, who plays Blondie. "It's pretty intense."
"I got to do this really fun green-screen moment where I was being lowered upside down on a harness 40 feet in the air," Jena Malone, a.k.a. Rocket in the film, explained. "I had to clear out my mag on my UMP [Universal Machine Pistol] while I was shooting all these robots that I was doing a double-flip over in the middle of a bullet train."
Jamie Chung, who plays Amber, added that part of the fun of working with green screen, particularly a scene in Mecca, was being able to use your imagination. When asked what she pulled from or where she went to prepare for those moments, Chung said she looked to her director.
"Into Zack Snyder's mind," she said. "That was the place that I went."
Emily Browning (Baby Doll) and Abbie Cornish (Sweet Pea) also touted the fight or "dance" sequences as the most unbelievable.
"My favorite thing to watch with my character is probably the first fight scene in Samurai world," Browning said. "People have said to me, 'Oh, so were you just standing there and there was a green screen and they made you look like you were jumping?' I said, 'No, I was on wires the whole time' jumping up and doing crazy things. We did almost a month of wirework at the end of the film. That's pretty cool to see. It's almost like a character in a video game or something."
"I definitely do love a lot of the fighting stuff," Cornish said. "For me the process of filming 'World War I' [an action sequence in the film] was incredible, because we all had solo action pieces so we got to indulge in those action pieces."
Cornish pointed out Snyder's use of high-speed cameras that were used to slow certain movements and make them stand out more onscreen.
"I love the moments where you see Vanessa's character flip her tomahawk and then that awesome throw that she does," she said. "And when Jenna flips her gun in slow motion, I love that stuff."
"That's probably the coolest moment," Browning agreed.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.
In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.
"My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I'd never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people," he recalled.
"And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, 'Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?' The politest possible way he could say no, he did. ... I took the hint. I didn't get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session."
But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. "He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, 'I should have let this kid sing,' and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me."
As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.
"As far as Usher being my mentor, he's definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important," he explained.
"There's a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life."
On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

Paz de la Huerta was involved in an altercation with Samantha Swetra Sunday night.
The Boardwalk Empire actress and The City star attended a party at The Standard Hotel, with sources telling TMZ the former started to hit on the latter's date. When Swetra remarked on how drunk de la Huerta appeared to be, she responded by throwing a drink and a fist into Samantha's face.
Insiders say shards of the glass became lodged in Swetra's leg, while Lindsay Lohan - yes, she was actually around for the incident - assisted Samantha and Paz was escorted out by security.
The actress was arrested last night. Swetra filed a police report this morning, but no charges have been filed yet.

Some supporters claim he was ambushed Tuesday on Good Morning America, but the questions by Robin Roberts that preceded Chris Brown's meltdown were approved by the singer before the interview, according to reports.
Brown FLIPPED afterward, allegedly smashing a dressing room window.
Roberts insists GMA asked in advance of she could pose "a few questions" about Rihanna, and Chris approved. She adds, "I'm pulling for the guy."
As for the broken window, sources say no one in the studio saw Chris throw a chair into the window, but he was definitely in the dressing room at the time.
Staffers called the cops after Chris Brown's tirade, which ended with him storming out in a shirtless huff, to document the broken window in the aftermath.
Whatever took place, shards of glass went flying onto the street, which potentially constitutes two crimes - vandalism and assault (on the passersby below).
No word yet on how seriously police plan on taking this, but Chris, who's still on probation in the Rihanna battery case, could be on thin ice as a result.
The NYPD has yet to take action, and may not unless ABC wants to press charges and actively gets them involved. Either way, not great for Chris' image.

Kate Walsh may look like she has it all -- but the Private Practice star says she's not quite there yet. Walsh, 43, tells More magazine that she still wants kids -- and, in fact, she expected to have a large family by now.

Singer cancels kick off date of European leg of his OMG Tour due to illness.

Usher was forced to delay the kick off of his European OMG Tour on Wednesday night in Berlin because of illness. In a statement released to fans, the singer apologized for the last-minute scratch, saying he felt he was suffering from a "sinus complication." Although the gig was rescheduled for Thursday night at the O2 World arena in Berlin, his German fans apparently weren't appeased by his effort.
"I am truly sorry to all my fans in Berlin who were inconvenienced by tonight's postponement of the show," the singer said in a statement about Wednesday's aborted concert. "I was ill and felt that I would not have been able to give them the show that they properly deserve. ... I am looking forward to performing tomorrow and giving Berliners a great show."
According to the statement, the singer received treatment from doctors for a sinus issue that affected his balance, but a visibly still-ailing Usher was unable to finish the Thursday make-up show, reportedly abandoning the stage after just five songs.
On Friday (January 14), a follow-up statement from his spokesperson confirmed that he was too ill to play Thursday night's Berlin date and has been forced to reschedule the next three dates on the tour as well. The Rotterdam show originally scheduled for this week has been moved to March 1 and a show in Antwerp, also slated for this week, has been bumped to March 7.
The statement also updated the singer's condition: "Usher is suffering from upper respiratory illness, which is currently preventing him from performing a proper show. After consultation with doctors, he has been advised to reschedule the upcoming dates in order to get the rest he needs to ensure a complete recovery."
Footage posted on YouTube that was purportedly taken at the make-up performance in Berlin shows Usher standing silently at the microphone seemingly unable to sing, with fans booing him at first and then chanting, "Usher, Usher," as he approaches the microphone and apologizes to them for his struggles. "I appreciate your support," he told the fans wearily.
"I have been very excited about my European Tour and I deeply regret having to reschedule the shows," the singer said in the new statement. "I am truly sorry for any inconvenience I have caused my fans. My fans are the best in the world and I am looking forward to getting better so that I can give them the show they deserve."
Usher wrapped up the North American leg of his tour in December and his overseas dates are slated to last through the spring.

Michigan Supreme Court dismisses privacy claims of Detroit officials caught on tape arguing with tour organizers.

In a decision released on Saturday, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown and other officials had no right to privacy when footage of a confrontation that occurred during Dr. Dre's Up in Smoke Tour made it onto a DVD. The ruling dismisses a lawsuit that was initially filed against Dr. Dre and tour organizers in 2002.
The incident in question occurred on July 6, 2000, when before a performance at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, officials told tour organizers they felt an introduction video was sexually obscene and demanded it not be played or else the power would be turned off. The tour complied with the request, but the discussion was videotaped, and the behind-the-scenes footage appeared on an Up in Smoke Tour DVD.
Brown, who at the time was a high-ranking police official, felt his privacy was violated since he asked that the video cameras be turned off.
"I would think I would have my rights protected, but that's not the way the court ruled," Brown told The Associated Press.
In 2000, Dr. Dre sued the cities of Detroit and Auburn Hills, Michigan, for $25 million for violating his right to free speech when Brown and others prevented the explicit intro video from being shown on the tour. The case was settled out of court, Dre received formal apologies from both cities, and police officials had to take First Amendment sensitivity training.
Performers on the Up in Smoke Tour, which was partially in support of Dr. Dre's 1999 album The Chronic 2001, also included Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Eminem and the late Nate Dogg. There is still no release date for Dr. Dre's highly anticipated third solo album Detox.

His 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' got high praise from the judges, even if it didn't come close to matching Kurt Cobain's original.

"American Idol" has taken some bold musical risks already this season, with contestants performing songs by Judas Priest and Ryan Adams for the first time in the show's history. But on Wednesday's (March 16) episode, "Idol" truly went somewhere it had never gone before, when 20-year-old Casey Abrams took a trip back to Seattle, circa 1991, and tried Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on for size.
"Smells Like Teen Spirit," of course, was not conceived with "American Idol" in mind. The generation-defining anthem marked a sea change for the music industry in the fall of '91, ushering in a new era of rock music that was worlds away from the plasticity of the hair bands that dominated rock music in the late '80s. The song and accompanying video marked the birth of the Alternative Nation and turned Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain into the reluctant leader of a new musical movement. He was gone just three years later — before a handful of this season's contestants were even born — but it's doubtful, given his stance on the music-industry machine, that he would be a vocal supporter of an enterprise like "Idol."
That didn't stop Abrams from taking on "Teen Spirit." He knew it was a risk, explaining in a pre-taped segment that he understood the weight of the song he was performing. "I don't care," he said. "I'm just, I'm gonna try it."
Abrams — who, in past weeks, has done Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You" and Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends" — played electric bass for the performance and put a kind-of demented, crazy-eyed spin on the song. The lighting in the "Idol" studio turned green and yellow, lending the proceedings an almost "Hulk"-like vibe, and Abrams played up the monster role by delivering his lyrics like a grunge version of Gollum. Cobain sang "Teen Spirit" with an indifference and disaffection that morphed into bitter rage by song's end; Abrams' take was more surface level, though he did enunciate the words far better than Cobain ever did. (Cobain's garbled delivery was parodied to great effect in "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Smells Like Nirvana" in 1992.) Meanwhile, the way Abrams shuffled his feet like Dave Matthews as he plucked his bass made for an odd mixing of '90s rock styles. The "Idol" backing band's decision to add in a wailing trumpet near the close of the song upped the ante for what was already a plenty weird performance.
For their part, the judges appreciated Abrams' bold decision to tackle a classic. Steven Tyler called him crazy and talented, saying mixing those together is "the goop that great stuff is made from." Jennifer Lopez noted Abrams veered into "screamy-screechy" territory, noting Cobain had intensity "but he didn't scream," yet still wound up professing her love for Abrams. And Randy Jackson — after name-checking Radiohead, Lykke Li and Muse (whose frontman, Matthew Bellamy, was in the "Idol" audience with pregnant girlfriend Kate Hudson) — complimented Abrams for "putting art first" and making risky choices. "That's what we need! Fearlessness! Come on, break the mold!"
Breaking the mold is definitely something "Idol" is doing this season, and it will be interesting to see what mountain the show decides to scale next.
